Why Google Plus

Having a social media and directory presence for a small business is paramount. Many small businesses have elected to not establish a solid internet presence due to the lack of understanding of how to do it properly, lack of time, or not understanding the value it can bring.  It is fair to say that most people know or use Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. But unfortunately that is no longer enough to distinguish yourself from the competition. The need to properly optimize directories, obtain a presence on all relevant social media sites to your business, and online reviews. These three elements of marketing can help increase your business by leaps and bounds.

One particular site every small business needs to be on is Google Plus. Google Plus is a must because of its integration with Google Local, YouTube, and Communities.  Plus provides reviews and the opportunity to review, and can be found often before a company’s own website. These features lend small professional services to improve ranking on listings on Google searches. Google local is also starting a grading system. If you are unfamiliar, Google went to a “out of 30” grading system instead of the more familiar “out of 5 stars”.

Now it is important to remember the best way to optimize your internet presence is to get your name out there as many ways as you possible can. An organic presence is the best presence.

Why Your Business Needs A Social Media Strategy

In these tough economic times, one of the biggest challenges that small businesses face is competing with the low prices of big corporations. Additionally, corporations have the time and the resources to constantly be pushing marketing efforts that drive sales while making their already strong brand awareness even stronger. So how does a small business keep up with that kind of financial strength in order to keep themselves afloat? In the last several years, the answer to that has lied in social media marketing. The problem that most small businesses face is that the public has simply never heard of them.

Before you can even make a concerted effort to drive sales, you’ve got to have the drive for brand awareness. Far too few small businesses realize the value of social media and the impact it can have on your brand, and inevitably, your bottom line. This is where most small businesses lose out and risk closing their doors. A lack of understanding towards the power of social media is a sure fire way to make sure your business gets left in the dust.

With social media marketing, you can create small virality to your brand. When one person finds your business, a social media presence encourages them to interact with your brand. That interaction is seen by all of their friends, which can lead to further interaction from other people. The process repeats itself and, provided you keep up with the claims that you offer within your social media channels, you can build a fan base that is proportional to the size of your business when compared to the larger brands in your industry.

Social media isn’t about direct selling, but it is about direct awareness. It gives the small guy an opportunity to make themselves a common household name like the big guys. Additionally, it keeps your brand in back of people’s minds, which can eventually lead to a sale when the time comes that they can use your product. Empowering your business with proper social media tactics is a vital strategy when it comes to the success of any small business.

30 Minute Small Business Marketing Plan

Social media marketing is changing the landscape of small businesses marketing.  It puts you in control in ways that most small businesses never experienced.
In the past when it came to marketing, small business usually had to put their eggs in one basket, that basket being a mail campaign, radio, or even television.  Once a small business decided on what marketing route they were going to go, that was it.  You had to decide what message you wanted to put out there, and you could not change it, without paying for it of course.  If you decided you wanted to change your marketing or a change in the market occurs you have to start that marketing campaign over again.  Well this is no longer the case, marketing is no longer static.
Social media marketing allows small businesses to stay on top of their market, and any changes that occur.  With as little as 30 minutes a day, real time marketing is a reality.  Here are a few tips:
·         Utilize Twitter.  Spend some time a day following new people.  Not only will you stay up to speed on the people you are following, most of the time people will in turn follow you.  So now, all your updates are seen by more potential clients.
·         Facebook updates.  A small blurb about what you did that day, or new clients you brought on builds credibility in the social media word.
·         Blog.  Dedicating a weekly blog that is business related can keep people up to speed on your business.
These are just a few examples of what can be done.  But something that is unique to small business is it gives businesses the ability to get creative.  If you decide on a marketing strategy Monday, by Wednesday, you can change it 180 degrees.  For almost no cost other than a little time to a small business.
whocanihire.com business dashboard is dedicated to helping small businesses succeed in their communities by social sharing.

You "Like" This - Promote your Business Effectively Through Facebook!

Want people to "Like" your facebook page fast? For all of us business owners who promote our business through Facebook, we know the more "Likes" we receive, the more potential our business has to grow. But how do you do this, how come your business has been on facebook for what it feels like ages and hasn't received attention? It may not be as hard as it look folks.

Just like any business starting out you have to have personal contact with your customer. Each facebook profile is a potential customer.  Reach out to each profile and ask them to "Like" you, and even show them how. Always include links to your page, whether your writing a blog, on someones wall, a message, etc.

Add for example Sincerely, Chanler Haden Contributed : ( www.whocanihire.com/about ), then Chanler is now promoting through something so basic as a wall post.

After listening to that tip, I bet you have "Likes" already. Now you need to interact with those fans at least 2 or even 3 times a day. Post links about something interesting or funny. For instance, http://www.facebook.com/#!/whocanihire puts a (joke of the day) on their wall Monday-Saturday. Cool right?!  Now all they're doing is putting their joke of the day on their wall with a link to the joke and  promoting themsleves through something so basic.

The most affective way I have seen interacting with customers is through personally sending them messages with a short one or two sentences telling them what your business is all about. Coupons on your facebook site are another way to promote, "Like" us today and get $10 off when you sign up http://www.facebook.com/#!/whocanihire . Make sure you have a comment box on your page, or a way for customers to leave their advice or opinions. Many customers crave personal attention from you. Respond to all facebook comments in a friendly and polite manner to show off your businesses personality. Always post fun appropriate videos to grab the attention of your social media craving customers.

Making Your Idea - Make you Money!

It seems these days everywhere you turn wild and sometimes almost ridiculous ideas take over the world’s attention. Remember silly bands? Have you ever sat around with your friends, drinking beers considering crazy ideas to make big bucks?

I got my idea for this blog from Hannah Hart of "mydrunkkitchen" fame who thought it would be funny to make a cooking video on Youtube. Soon after posting she had a group of fans and followers asking for more. When people ask Hannah for tips on how to get famous through Youtube, Facebook, or other social media sites, she gives the following six steps that she has learned along the way.

  • Be a good friend so that people repost your video on other social media sites.
  • Be patient (being in marketing for whocanihire.com, this is one virtue I have really learned). Building your site takes time and dedication. Make sure your site or whatever "your million dollar idea" may be, has potential and hold a purpose. Putting your idea out on these social media sites, you can be sure they will be seen.
  • Get a second opinion and be open to multiple ideas.
  • Don’t be afraid to work hard.
  • Never post anything you’re not proud of.
  • When posting comedy be sure it makes you laugh out loud

So with all that said, next time you’re sitting around with your buddies drinking a beer laughing about crazy ideas, and a good one comes along, you should run with it! Get it setup on Youtube, whocanihire, Facebook, or any other good social media sites you have in mind. See where your idea with dedication takes you.

Social Media in the Coffee Shop

Lets face it, social media is the future of public relations and public sharing. With sites such as Twitter, Facebook, Foursquare, Yelp, and many others allowing you to tell where you are located and what you like/dislike about a business, comes the realization that everyone has the power to impact their brand. For instance, I was in Best Buy just the other day and I tweeted out, “The customer service at Best Buy in Boynton Beach, Fl is very poor today." Within 5 minutes of tweeting this out on Twitter, I received a message from the competition telling me to personally stop in and how their customer satisfaction was 100% guaranteed. Now what if I sat down whatever I was purchasing from Best Buy, left the store, and went over to the competition? Social media would have then affected Best Buy. Needless to say, I was being a little lazy that day.

The guy sitting next to you in Starbucks with his iphone could be writing a Twitter, Facebook,Foursquare, Yelp update or review about your business, which will then be pushed out for followers to see and then affect the decision making of your customers. Crazy right? The average joe in Starbucks is then just as important as a millionaire walking into your store interested in what your business is all about. Yes folks, times have changed. It's not just big street bulletins, newspaper articles, telemarketing that effects your businesses sales, it's social media.

  • It gets your brand out there and lets be honest, when there’s 2 billion searches on Google each day alone, how much more advertisement could you ask for
  • There are sites ( whocanihire.com ) that give you a foundation to advertise your business and start using there site with a basic 1,2,3 sign up
  • Social media expands your reach. It allows your customers to easily spread the word of your business through their friends and colleagues

Why Waste Advertising Dollars On Yellow Pages When You Have Social Media?

We think there are better ways to spend your money on advertising than the Yellow Pages. Need more convincing? Here are 10 reasons why we think it is a waste of money.
  1. They are nowhere near number one, or even on the front page of search engines, for any important search terms. A quick look at the top search words “plumber” “electrician” and “contractor” show that they are not even in the top three PAGES! All the important categories are either taken by major firms operating in that arena, or other directories.
  2. They are expensive for what you get. Could that money be better spent whocanihire.com, on a new or second website, on a social media manager that you can tie directly to sales, or on optimizing your website?
  3. Most of ads in the Yellow Pages are never read. If you are ever looking for something, would you read the ads for a plumber if you were looking for a carpenter? Even ads in a major newspaper get a better viewing than that.
  4. whocanihire.com can be the number one preference for finding local businesses
  5. Yellow pages ads are static, so if you have a complex story to tell, you are out of luck.
  6. The ads can’t be updated for AN ENTIRE YEAR, so you had better not move, change email or web addresses.
  7. You can’t test copy, with different targets across different parts of the year.
  8. If you are looking to reach out to your local community, you will get more mileage by spending your money on sponsoring a local little league baseball team and sponsoring your local paper’s community awards.
  9. If you are a B2B business, working with your current customers on a testimonial video campaign coupled with social media will give you a greater reach than the Yellow Pages.
  10. If all the free advertising was removed from the Yellow Pages, there would be very little of the book left. Think about that. Most of the Yellow Pages appeal, to both advertisers and readers, is that it is given away.  Compare that to advertising of value, like whocanihire.com, social media, a professional blogger, or even traditional newspaper advertising, where both the advertisers and the reader have to pay more.

The Pony Express of the Social Media Age

An associate of mine that I do business with received something very unusual in the mail...a letter.  First it was a letter about the senders desire to sell his parents home in Florida, second there was no other information as far as a phone number or email address.

This potential customer seems to have the expectation that communication during a business deal will be done through mail correspondence alone.  After my associate informed me of this very old fashioned communication style he followed it up with, “I don’t even know what to do.”  I couldn’t agree more.

Business is done with a mouse click and a scanner, not an envelope and a stamp. I personally feel that being old fashioned is a good thing when you are dating or wearing a suit.

When it is time to conduct business, give me the latest technology so I can get it done faster.

whocanihire.com puts your business right in front of the target market, making it easy for them to locate and contact you for your services.  whocanihire.com allows you to create a unique profile with your company logo, links to website and social media.

Green Please

Today it is harder to find companies that are not green or talking about going green than not.  From recycling to solar energy every company big or small is either on the bandwagon or should be thinking about how they are going to get on the wagon. People are more aware of the global impact of products they use today, and because of that they want to buy green.  And the smart companies see that. Unfortunately, there are some kinks still to be worked out.

Right now green products are more expensive than their “non-green” competitors.  In a time of economic instability and near record level unemployment, people have to make the choice of what’s going to affect their pocketbook first and everything else after.  As much as people would like to purchase products that are not going to harm the environment, financially, it does not make sense for many people to do that right now.

I know that electric car’s emissions are cleaner than that of gas power cars but there are still byproducts produced.  The electric car gets plugged into an outlet at your house or on street.  In order to produce that electricity to power that car it could be inferred that it comes from a power plant, and power plants produce emissions that are harmful to the environment.  It would be great to think that all electricity that powers these cars come from solar or wind power, but we are not quite there at this point.

But this is what is great about technology, more specifically, what is great about humanity.  We are making strides using technology toward a cleaner planet for everyone.  Although it can be said that there are some “problems” that need to be worked out both with the technology and outside factors, like the economy, but as far as I know Rome wasn’t built in a day.

Companies that are on whocanihire.com are becoming greener and may not recognize it.  By marketing and promoting themselves on whocanihire.com they can reduce printing costs and materials.

The Death of a Tradition

This is the time of the year that certain staples of culture make their annual appearance.  Pools open across the country, baseball season is in full swing and the class reunions are coming around, more specifically, high school reunions.

There seems to be traditions that regardless of what cultural changes occur, they will continue on. But I think that there are certain traditions that cannot withstand the wave of change.  I think that the high school reunion is the next nostalgic act to fall victim to social media.

The idea behind the class reunion is simple, people who graduated together can get together and catch up and reminisce about their days in school together, and talk about (usually lie) what they are doing now.  Now by looking at this definition it sounds a lot like Facebook to me.  What social media did is streamline the catching up process.  You, like most, probably have a good amount of people that you went to high school with and graduated with as Facebook friends.  You more than likely know about what they do, how the kids are, what trips they took and pretty much any information they care to share and vice versa .  There you go…a readymade reunion.  Now don’t get me wrong, there is no substitution for human interaction, but social media has giving us the power to truly keep up and not lose touch with the ones we care about.

So the question is: Do you think that the class reunion will cease to exist, and if so how many years out?

Caught in the Web of Lies

Caught in the Web of Lies.

Parents for years have been delivering the birds and the bees talk and warning their young teens on the dangers of drugs and alcohol.  Well it looks like the kids have to start delivering a talk to their parents.  “Do not put information on the web you do not want everyone to see.”

Enter Congressman Weiner.  In this technological age where communication with everyone is a mouse click away you must take the necessary precaution to protect yourself. The most dangerous person you are going to encounter out on the web that you must always, always be aware of is…you.  Most people can agree that if you say something, you now own those words, and it is a representation of who you are.  Social media sites like twitter, facebook, Blogger, etc are additional “mouths” and if it comes from your account, you said it, or posted it, or sent the picture.  Saying that someone hacked into your account and sent a picture of yourself is as bad as an excuse as saying that someone hacked into my brain and made me say those terrible things.

So this brings me to my question.  Are politicians, celebrities and athletes more twisted today, or do we now have the tools to really know these wack-jobs?

#textcode_from_above#

Social Media, not just for kids anymore.

I think this should be the whole phenomena’s new tagline.  If you have a small or medium sized business and you are not using Social Media to promote yourself or business you are blind to the most powerful source to generate new business.

I caught myself watching commercials during a basketball game, which I think is still the only time that DVR/TIVO is not utilized today, and I noticed a few things.

Number one:

Search engines are utilizing social media.  Bing is incorporating Facebook into your search results.   Also, the entire commercial for Google Chrome shows the different social media buttons rolled into the search engine.

Number two:

When the commercials are wrapping up it seems that the product they are advertising is pushing you more toward their Facebook, YouTube or twitter page by highlighting the advertisers social media buttons. It almost seems that the website is secondary or irrelevant at this point.

So what does this mean?  It means that if you think that Social Media cannot help you and your business than I am sorry there is nothing that will help you grow your business.  If you think that mailing out post cards, advertising in the newspaper, or God forbid paying for commercials are going to help you get new business, than I think it is time that you head on back to 1992. You might have a shot there, but in today’s world, social media is king

Just a quick numbers game; how many people do you think that you can reach with a national campaign including mailing, newspaper advertising, and TV ads?  How about the cost?  Ouch. Okay how about the same campaign but at local prices, a little bit better right?  Okay how about for nearly nothing you can reach out to a half a billion of people? Enter social media for professionals.  Facebook alone has over 600,000,000 people on it and growing  as is twitter.   The major cost that a business would have to pay to get into this market is time, time to set up a Facebook page, and to manage the page. How can you afford not to adapt a social media strategy for your business?

I wonder how long until commercials are gone all together?  Any thought……
